message from the Minister of Water Resources, Cameroon

Mrs. Gaston ELOUNDOU ESSOMBA
Minister of Water Resources and Energy of the Republic of Cameroon
On behalf of the Government of Cameroon, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA) for selecting Cameroon as the host of the 23rd International Congress and Exhibition, to be held in Yaoundé from 9 to 13 February 2026. This honour reflects Cameroon’s steadfast commitment to ensuring equitable access to water and sanitation for all.
True to its tradition of hospitality, Cameroon will spare no effort to make
this event a moment of excellence, innovation, and enhanced African cooperation. We are fully prepared to welcome thousands of delegates, experts, policymakers, partners, and exhibitors to Yaoundé under optimal conditions. Our capital is poised to serve as a platform for showcasing African expertise and driving practical solutions for the continent.
This congress convenes amid critical challenges: rapid urbanisation, climate vulnerability, sustained population growth, and regional disparities. In response, Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2020–2030 prioritises achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 on clean water and sanitation. Through major investment programmes, we are modernising water infrastructure, enhancing sector governance, and advancing inclusive sanitation policies. These efforts align with the vision of His Excellency Paul Biya, President of the Republic, for a united, sustainable, and forward-looking Cameroon.
The theme, “Water and Sanitation for All: Bold Actions for Africa,” is a powerful call to collective action. It underscores our shared responsibility to build a resilient continent, where every woman, man, and child has access to essential services with dignity.
Through this message, I issue a solemn call to all stakeholders: governments, local authorities, businesses, donors, young professionals, researchers, and NGOs,to join us in Yaoundé in 2026. Come and make Africa’s voice heard. Let us make this congress a turning point for the future of water and sanitation across our continent.
